Helping Over the Holidays!

The Cavalier School students and staff collected money to help the Murray family cover some of their expenses they have experienced due to a fire that destroyed their home.  The Cavalier PTO also gave a donation to the family.  The family was very appreciative for all that the students and staff have done for them at this time of need.

Cavalier School Staff Makes Donation

The Cavalier School staff decided to fore go the Christmas presents for each other this year and instead each member made a donation to the Pembina County Food Pantry and School Supply Voucher Program.  The money was collected last week and Ms. Greenwood, representing the Cavalier staff, presented the donation to Bonnie Deraas.  It is the time for holiday giving!

New Technology

We returned back from the TIES Conference late Tuesday night.  It was a wonderful conference full of great new ideas of ways to incorporate technology into the classroom.  I attended several sessions dealing with the use of Ipads in the classroom.  In one Minnesota school they are piloting a "paperless classroom".  All students have ipads and they do their work from them.  They are able to access all their reading materials off the web so they do not even have to use a textbook.  Very interesting.

TIES Conference in Minneapolis

We are off to a technology conference in Minneapolis, Mrs. Urluab, Mrs. Gruenberg, Mrs. Furstenau, and me.  It is a four day conference filled with wonderful new technology classes to help us learn and bring back information about the latest educational technology practices we can use in our school.  I am looking forward to learning a lot of new things!

Baby It's COLD Outside!

Time for students to be bundled up!  Students have outdoor recess everyday unless there is a dangerous windchill.  So please be sure to have your students wear hat, scarf, jacket, snowpants, boots, and gloves everyday!  It would even be beneficial if they had an extra set of hat and gloves to keep in their lockers incase they misplace one.

The students pictured below are great examples of how you should be dressed for outside recess.

Today grades K-6 attended an assembly dealing with the character counts trait of kindness and caring.  We talked about what it means to be kind and caring.  Identified character traits in some famous Christmas songs that are popular with the children and I read them a great book called, Enemy Pie by Derek Munson.  We announced and cheered for the students that were choosen to have Pizza with the Principal because they showed kindness in their classrooms.  The winners are as follows; K-Alyx Ratchenski, Abbie Winkler, Jonathan Ratajczah Grade 1- Arielle Grandbois, Jack Sott, Grade 2 - Mena Leininger, Ethan Russell, Justine Peterson, Daniel Hinkle, Grade 3 - Ella Hurst, Alex Jackson, Grade 4 - Brynn Wznick, Parker Sharp, Grade 5 - Cole Reiser, Jason Hirdler, Grade 6 - Abbie Jackson

Wednesday, December 1st, Students Dismissed at 1:30PM

On Wednesday, Dec. 1st, the Cavalier Public School teachers have an in-service from 1:30-7:00PM, so students will be dismissed at 1:30PM.  Teachers will be trained on developing flipcharts for teaching on the activboards.  The goal of the training is to help teachers make flipcharts more engaging for students, use media within the flipcharts and add sound and other layering tricks to their flipcharts.  Through the use of activboards students are able to receive a great interactive instruction of the material being taught.

Beginning to Blog

Here is my second attempt at blogging.  My first try ended up only being maybe two posts because I was at home bored and decided to give blogging a try.  After those two posts a year went by without ever even checking back to the blogspot!  Well now here I go again.  I really do want to begin to blog on a regular basis. I hope to utilize my blog as a communication method to keep people up to date on school happenings and various educational lessons.
